Xhaka and Régis Le Bris have forged an effective partnership at Sunderland, and the head coach says any future step into management for Granit Xhaka should be true to his personality and grounded in balance. "I have to balance him out," Le Bris joked.
Speaking to The Times earlier this year, Xhaka said: "He’s very special." He added: "He’s always under control and this is maybe for my future. He gives me some advice which is very helpful".
Le Bris called it a privilege to coach Xhaka, praising his standards and the way his demands on himself allow him to be demanding of others. "It's a real pleasure and a privilege to be the manager of this kind of player," he said.
He stressed that a head coach must avoid extremes, set the tone, and remain authentic. In Xhaka’s case, Le Bris believes leading from the front suits him, and whenever he becomes a manager, there is no rush, he should respect that intensity.
Le Bris admitted he once lost his temper when younger and learned from those mistakes. Now, he says any interventions are measured, sometimes at half-time and once or twice at full-time this season, because balance influences everyone.
