Granit Xhaka sends anniversary message to Sunderland fans | OneFootball

Granit Xhaka has marked the first anniversary of his Sunderland move with a social media message to supporters, expressing gratitude and looking ahead to the new season.

The player said in an Instagram story, set to Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love, that a year has flown by, he appreciates the challenges and memories, and he is ready for another campaign.

Xhaka joined on 30 July last year and has become a key figure as Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League, securing Europa League qualification.

Earlier this summer it appeared he could depart, with newly appointed Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso identifying him as a target. The 33-year-old has instead opted to remain on Wearside.

Head coach Regis Le Bris said the matter is closed, adding that Xhaka loves the club, wants to stay and help shape its future, and is a strong captain and leader.
