It was a successful start to the season for Celtic FC Women, who kicked things off with a 2-1 win over Glasgow City.

The Ghirls were handed a tough start to the season, with a trip to Petershill Park to get the campaign underway.

Despite a tricky start, the Hoops showed great character to come from behind and ultimately take home all three points in their season opener.

It was a result and performance which very much pleased head coach, Grant Scott, as he told CelticPlayer after the game.

He said: “Overall it was a good performance, minus a shaky start. I thought it took us a little while to settle into the game.

“We certainly looked a little bit flustered in the early period, but credit to the players, they were figuring it out in-game.

'We were looking at ways to change it and manipulate it, but as I say, credit to the players, they figured it out themselves.'

“There was just a couple of refreshers at half-time on a couple of things, and we controlled the game pretty well from there.

"I think it's one of the toughest opponents we could have had for that to happen. So hopefully those are good signs.

“It's the first game. We need to remember, remind ourselves of that, and there are a lot of learnings to take from it.

“I thought it was a poor goal we conceded, for example, and we let that happen at a switch of play for City a few times too many in that first period.

“But we reminded them a few things at half-time and, from there, as I say, we went on to be semi-comfortable in the game and at the end we showed a lot of quality to see it out.

‘Your next game is the most important one. We'll take the three points and move on very, very quickly because we'll have a tough one next week against Montrose.’

“It’s our first game at home. So there's a lot of factors in there that are going to affect our performance potentially.

“So we need to stick on task, make sure we put in that work, create that effort in every match from here because it shows what you can do when you get it right.

"But it's first game and we have to be looking to win every single game that we can, and that's going to be our focus now straight on to the next one.”
