Liverpool’s acquisition of Ryan Gravenberch last summer not only bolstered their midfield but also underscored the continuing influence of former star Sadio Mane on the club’s allure. In a candid revelation, Gravenberch credits Mane with shaping his decision to join the Reds, marking a pivotal step in his burgeoning career.
At the heart of Gravenberch’s transition from Bayern Munich to Liverpool was Sadio Mane, whose endorsement of the Merseyside club played a crucial role. During a difficult stint in Munich, where both players experienced their share of challenges, Mane’s reflections on Liverpool resonated with Gravenberch.
“Sadio is a really nice guy,” Gravenberch shared in an interview with LFCTV. “When I was in Munich, I asked him about Liverpool – if it’s a good step for me, how the club was and everything.” The encouragement received was more than enough to convince him. “He said a lot of good things, so in my head I was like ‘I have to go’,” Gravenberch added. “Basically, he sold me, yeah.”
Since arriving at Liverpool, Gravenberch has not only integrated into the squad but has thrived under the guidance of manager Arne Slot. With a pivotal role carved out in a deeper midfield position, Gravenberch’s performances have been critical. His consistency is evident, having started every Premier League game this season and already nearing his total league appearances from the previous season.
