Liverpool’s current transfer shopping list would appear to include several more stars from Barcelona.
Having secured Ronald Araujo from the Camp Nou side - on a loan deal with an option to buy - we could see the Reds return to Catalunya for more reinforcements.
We’ve seen links with Marc Bernal and Jules Kounde for example. Bernal, a young midfielder, could be made available as Hansi Flick weighs up what to do with the La Masia graduate.
Kounde meanwhile is a more established player and one which could provide solutions at right-back and even centre-back for Andoni Iraola.
And of course there is plenty of talk around Alejandro Balde too.
The homegrown left-back has tumbled down Flick’s pecking order - with Xavi Espert and Joao Cancelo now ahead of him. It’s a far cry from the Spain international’s campaign last season when he featured in 42 matches for the Blaugrana.
With a contract expiring in 2028 Barca will soon have to come to a decision over Balde – with Paris Saint-Germain said to be lining up a €40m bid for the three-time La Liga winner.
But Liverpool will have a chance to join the queue for Balde according to a report in Fichajes - with Iraola interested in recruiting the swashbuckling defender.
Moreover the report claims that Balde is now resigned to his fate - agreeing to leave his hometown club for pastures new in January.
“Alejandro Balde, the 22-year-old Barcelona left-back, is now considering a move in January after losing his place in Hansi Flick's starting lineup,” the report reads.
“Liverpool, Chelsea, and AC Milan are monitoring his situation, while PSG are reportedly preparing a €40 million offer (£34m) for the player.
“Liverpool remain interested in signing Alejandro Balde in January.
“The English club were already among those monitoring the full-back during the summer and are now reassessing his availability given his lack of playing time at Barcelona.”
Alejandro Balde is a 22-year-old Barcelona academy graduate whose pace, athleticism and dribbling make him a natural attacking left-back.
At his best, he provides explosive overlap, carries the ball through pressure and supplies width for inside forwards; the defensive side of his game remains less refined. Barcelona describe him as a quick, powerful full-back capable of supporting the attack.
His standing has changed sharply under Hansi Flick. After making 42 appearances, including 31 starts, last season, Balde has played only once in 2026/27: a 12-minute substitute outing.
He is currently behind João Cancelo and Xavi Espart in the left-back pecking order. Balde’s contract expires in June 2028, leaving Barcelona with time but not complete comfort.
He chose to stay and fight for his place in the summer, yet sustained inactivity could make January a genuine decision point, with several major European clubs monitoring his situation.
