City captain Alex Greenwood is set to become only the tenth player in history to make 200 Barclays Women's Super League appearances.

Our captain has been included in City’s starting line-up to take on Arsenal at 16:30 (UK), with the Etihad Stadium hosting the showpiece occasion.

That start also means she breaks the WSL’s record for the most starts (192) in her first 200 appearances, overtaking former City defender Gemma Bonner.

It’s Greenwood’s 116th league match for the Club, also making her City’s fourth-highest appearance holder in the English top-flight.

The 33-year-old’s double century began with Notts County in 2015 where she totalled 14 appearances before moving to Merseyside.

Greenwood represented Liverpool in the WSL from 2016 to 2018 and played 32 games before a stint in the second division with Manchester United.

The versatile defender then travelled to France where she spent one season with Olympique Lyonnais where she won the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2020.

Less than a month later, Greenwood returned to England after she put pen to paper on a three-year contract with City.

Since then, Greenwood has been a key figure in our backline, with today’s match set to be her 178th in blue.

She’s unquestionably among both England’s and the WSL’s greatest-ever defenders, with her set-piece ability also making her a huge threat in attacking areas.

The latter attribute saw her increase goal tally for the club to eight last week, as she scored a free-kick to help City beat Charlton 1-0 as we continue our title defence on the front foot.

Everyone at City would like to congratulate Alex on reaching 200 WSL appearances.
