Greg Docherty has claimed that Hull City needs to find an identity quickly in order to arrest their current slide in form.

It has been a difficult few weeks for the Tigers as they continue their search for a new permanent manager.

Andy Dawson has taken the reins on an interim basis and has overseen three defeats in four games – carrying on the side’s poor form from under Shota Arveladze.

The Championship club has suffered seven losses in their last eight league games, which has seen them fall to 21st in the table.

The 26-year-old highlighted the quick turnaround between games as a chance for the team to put things right immediately.

“It’s extremely disappointing, it’s another disappointing one,” said Docherty, via Hull Live.

“It’s becoming a bit of a habit at the minute and one we need to stop quickly or else we could find ourselves in a bit of bother.

“We’re not hiding away from where we are at the minute but we’ve got two more games this week and that’s the classic beauty of this league with another game right around the corner.

“We need to take accountability for our actions and we need to put that right on Wednesday because the fans deserve more and we need to put it right quickly.”

The midfielder has aired his frustrations with the team’s recent form but believes there is a way out of this if they can get back to doing the basics right again.

It is an aspect of the game that he feels has been lost in the dressing room, but has claimed it could be what Hull needs to focus on in order to turn things around in the coming weeks.

“I feel like teams are maybe getting the better of us by doing the basics and that’s disappointing,” he added.

“During the time I’ve been here it’s something we’ve prided ourselves on but as a team I think we need to strip it back.

“We need to get back to working hard and it sounds very easy but it’s effective in this league.

“We touch on the game against Luton and this one they are both really strong, hard-working teams and they’ve got a real identity and we’ve been turned over by them from their strong identity.

“That’s something that we need to find.

“Identity in our play and get back to being a threat at the top end of the pitch which is something that isn’t there at the minute.”

Up next for Dawson’s side is a visit to Bloomfield Road to face Blackpool on Wednesday night.

The Verdict

Hull’s recent form has been dire, the absolute worst in the division, and needs to be turned around quickly to avoid slipping into the relegation zone.

It is all well and good identifying issues off the pitch, but the work needs to be done to get things right during games.

Not having a permanent manager in place following Arveladze’s dismissal has proven to be a huge mistake.

Dawson is not equipped for this role, but there has been a serious lack of urgency to find a new appointment which has harmed Hull’s season significantly.
