Grêmio’s 2025 brought more lows than highs, though a steadier Brasileirão finish kept them away from a relegation scrap. According to Globo.com, mid-year additions, notably Carlos Vinicius and Arthur, lifted performances. Others did not convince.

They were Gaúcho runners-up, finished ninth in the league, and exited the Sudamericana play-offs and Copa do Brasil in the last 16.

Carlos Vinicius hit 12 goals and one assist in 14 games, his best since Benfica in 2019/20. Arthur restored control, is on loan from Juventus until mid-2025 with the possibility of renewal to December, and Grêmio have begun efforts to sign him permanently.

Willian played six times due to a fractured fifth metatarsal, yet added one goal and two assists. Noriega, from Alianza Lima, secured a centre-back berth, then ended the year nursing left ankle ligament damage.

Marlon became first choice and met a contractual threshold, prompting a €3 million, roughly R$ 23 million, buy. Marcos Rocha added leadership despite muscle issues, while Amuzu finished strongly and replaced Willian, winning support and eyeing a Ghana World Cup.

Among the disappointments, Cristaldo lost his place and posted three goals and four assists in 47 games. Record buy Cristian Olivera faded after the window, criticised Mano Menezes’ call, sought a return to Nacional, and will join Bahia on loan. Volpi mixed strong spells with late errors after injury, Lucas Esteves lost out to Marlon, and Cuéllar struggled to adapt, the planned pairing with Villasanti never materialised, ending as a reserve with 28 appearances.
