Grêmio bank R$ nine million with Copa do Brasil semi and joke about Enamorado scam | OneFootball

Luís Castro’s Grêmio beat Inter 3-1 on Thursday night to reach the Copa do Brasil semi-finals, setting up a tie with Atlético-MG. According to Globo.com, the club will bank R$ nine million for advancing.

The club also poked fun at the scam involving forward Enamorado. On Wednesday it emerged a fraudster had impersonated coach Luís Castro, and Enamorado, who featured in the clássico, transferred R$ 22,000 to the criminal, who was later arrested. Grêmio then posted a payment request to the CBF carrying the Colombian’s photo.

Across all rounds so far, Grêmio have received R$ 18 million in prize money, having entered in the fifth phase before the last 16. The funds arrive as the club face financial difficulty.

Agent Giuliano Bertolucci is seeking in court R$ 19 million from Grêmio, relating to deals and intermediations with the club.

Last week the club incurred an Evento de Insolvência and was hit with a preventive block, similar to a transfer ban, imposed by Anresf, an independent agency created by the CBF to enforce financial fair play in Brazilian football.

Attention now turns to the Campeonato Brasileiro. Grêmio visit Vitória in Salvador on Monday at 20:00 in round 26, while the Atlético-MG semi-final legs are set for one and eight November, with home and away to be decided by a draw at a date still to be set.
