Grêmio’s deliberative council will vote next Thursday, the fifth, on quitting the Liga do Futebol Brasileiro, Libra, and joining Futebol Forte União, formerly LFU. The call to vote was issued on Wednesday and reflects the club’s dissatisfaction with the bloc’s direction.
GZH reports that a lack of debate over competition structure, Flamengo’s stance and reduced revenues compared with the initial agreement have irked the club.
Grêmio joined Libra in 2022. At the end of last year a Rio de Janeiro court froze part of the broadcast income due to a Flamengo lawsuit contesting the split, and the Porto Alegre club publicly criticised Flamengo’s position.
If approved, the move would see Grêmio follow Corinthians and Atlético-MG, who have already switched from Libra to the FFU.
Entry into the new bloc would bring a little over R$ 100 million in the coming weeks, an advance of 10% of television revenue agreed for the next 50 years.
