Grêmio said in a statement that captain Arthur has suffered a grade one strain of the right rectus femoris, with an estimated return in two to three weeks.
The midfielder was initially rested by Luís Castro for Wednesday’s Sul-Americana match against Palestino, then came on at half-time in a 0-0 draw at La Cisterna in Santiago.
In two weeks, Grêmio have the return leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil against Confiança, having won the first meeting 2-0 at the Arena.
If his lay-off lasts three weeks, he would be in line for the meeting with Santos on 23 May in the Brasileirão.
Without Arthur, Grêmio travel to Curitiba on Friday to face Athletico-PR at Arena da Baixada on Saturday at 20:30 in the 14th round of the Brasileiro. They are 11th in the table and have gone more than three months without an away win.
