Grêmio face São Paulo on Saturday seeking a first ever place in the Brasileirão Feminino semi-finals after a 0-0 first leg. As reported by Globo.com, they are chasing a historic milestone under coach Jéssica de Lima.

To achieve it they must end a winless run against the Paulista side that stretches back to their 2020 return to Série A. There have been 10 meetings since then, with four draws and six defeats.

This is Grêmio's fifth quarter-final, the previous one in 2024, also against São Paulo. Clubs from São Paulo have knocked them out in three other runs, by Corinthians in 2020 and Palmeiras in 2021 and 2022.

De Lima said she has reached knockout stages in almost every edition of the league, except 2014 when her team were withdrawn. She called the phase emotional and stressed that each campaign is different.

She added that when she arrived the team needed wins to move away from the relegation zone. She works game by game and avoids thinking about consequences to limit anxiety, treating any historic outcome as secondary to competing.

The match is at Brinco de Ouro in Campinas at 16:30. Any Grêmio win sends them through, another draw takes it to penalties.
