According to Gremistas.net, Grêmio are exploring a move for Botafogo’s Venezuelan attacker Savarino, potentially linked to settling sums owed between the clubs. With limited funds for signings, the Porto Alegre side are targeting cost-effective solutions.

New head coach Luis Castro rates Savarino highly, and the player is seen as a possibility within a wider agreement to resolve pending amounts from recent transfers.

The first deal between the clubs involved left-back Cuiabano, sold by Grêmio for about R$ eight million. Grêmio are also due R$ six million as a sell-on from Botafogo’s July sale to Nottingham Forest of England.

At the end of 2024, Grêmio sold forward Nathan Fernandes to Botafogo for $7.5 million (R$ 42 million) plus a further $2.5 million (R$ 15 million) in potential bonuses.

In total, Botafogo agreed to pay at least R$ 56 million, part of which is overdue. Grêmio have already lodged claims with CBF bodies.

Grêmio aim to fold this outstanding balance into a proposal for Savarino’s arrival. Botafogo have not yet responded, and the player has rejected other exits as he wishes to remain with the Rio club.
