Grêmio have completed the signings of Argentine midfielders Juan Nardoni from Racing and Leonel Pérez from Huracán. The double addition in the same role has prompted questions over Arthur, whose current deal runs until June.

After the 5-3 win over Botafogo at the Arena on Wednesday, football director Rafael Lima said the moves were not about a risk of losing Arthur, but followed recruitment and coaching analysis and were made because the pair offer complementary qualities to the squad. He also said there has been no formal contact with Juventus over Arthur’s future and that, given the player’s value, the club will address the matter at the right time.

Club executives have already spoken with Arthur to express a desire for him to remain in Porto Alegre.

An academy graduate and a 2017 Libertadores winner, Arthur returned to the club in August last year.

Since then he has made 19 appearances and scored one goal.
