Grêmio are pushing for a top-eight spot and banking on internal reorganisation and new processes to turn progress into results in the women’s side. According to Globo.com, executive Bárbara Fonseca reviewed the first half of the year, citing growth and flagging structural and attacking challenges.

In the Brasileiro Feminino A1, Grêmio sit ninth with 19 points. They drew with Juventude in the last round and must end inside the top eight to qualify. Before the World Cup break, they went out to Inter on penalties in the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil.

Fonseca said the opening semester showed a clear upward curve despite that exit, with internal assessments positive as the team developed through the season. She asked supporters for patience, stressing the project aims to build a side that reflects the club’s identity.

She found a department under reconstruction after changes in coordination and staff early in the campaign. In March, head coach Cyro Leães departed and Jéssica de Lima took over, the club preferring a coach experienced in the women’s game. Fonseca added that many players arrive without full academy grounding, so coaching must bolster game understanding, decision-making and human development.

Structural issues persist. Home matches are staged in Porto Alegre to stay close to fans, currently at Passo D’Areia, São José’s ground in the north of the city, which has synthetic turf and has drawn criticism. Fonseca accepted it is not ideal but argued proximity is key while the women’s game grows.

The focus now is to sharpen attacking output and clinch qualification, with the squad returning on Wednesday. The restart is viewed as a chance to refine tactics and embed the model so progress becomes results. Grêmio visit Flamengo on 24 July at Luso-Brasileiro in the 13th round of the Brasileiro Feminino A1.
