Grêmio’s turbulent week took another turn on Tuesday as supporters hung two protest banners in Porto Alegre, criticising the squad and spending on salaries.
According to Globo.com, the banners were draped from the Avenida Goethe footbridge near Parque Moinhos de Vento, a traditional site for post-title celebrations.
The demonstration comes during the team’s worst spell of the season. Over the past month, Grêmio have played seven matches and won only one, against Deportivo Riestra of Argentina in the Copa Sul-Americana, with four defeats and two draws.
In the Campeonato Brasileiro, they have not won for more than a month. Their last victory came against Vitória at the Arena on 19 March.
The messages read: "Resort Tricolor $$$$" and "$alário de milhões e o futebol de centavo$".
On Tuesday at 19:30, Grêmio face Confiança at the Arena in the first leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil.
