Grêmio are finalising the sale of Gabriel Mec to Porto in a deal worth 10 million euros, R$60.1 million. The Brazilian club hold 80% of the 18-year-old’s economic rights and will receive eight million euros, R$48.1 million.

According to Globo.com, Mec is expected to travel to Portugal soon for a medical and to sign, so he will not play for Grêmio again. His current contract with the Tricolor was due to run until September 2027.

Porto initially offered eight million euros, but the fee rose during negotiations, which concluded on Sunday.

In the first half of the year, Shakhtar Donetsk bid 12 million euros, and last year the Ukrainians tried 15 million euros. On both occasions the board accepted, but the player chose not to move.

He also drew recent enquiries from Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Villareal and Fenerbache, though none advanced into formal bids.

The attacking midfielder departs during a dip in form, having lost his place under Luís Castro in recent months and been relegated to the bench after the World Cup break. He made only four appearances in the 10 matches after the restart. Even so, this has been his busiest Grêmio season, with 32 games, three goals and two assists.
