Grêmio return to the Brasileirão on Friday at 20:00 against Mirassol after 48 days without a competitive game during the World Cup pause.
According to Globo.com, the hiatus brought squad churn, backroom change and three friendlies. Vice-president of football Antônio Dutra Júnior left, with Rafael Lima promoted as he moved to the board’s vice-presidency.
Arthur’s loan ended on 30 June and he returned to Juventus. Viery joined Fiorentina for up to €17 million, €15 million guaranteed. André Henrique moved to Goztepe in Türkiye for up to two million euros, and Arezo signed permanently for Peñarol. Shakhtar Donetsk bid for Gabriel Mec and the decision rests with the player and his representatives.
Defender Wallace, 21, arrived from CRB on a five-year deal. Striker Matheus Nascimento signed from Botafogo after a stint at LA Galaxy. Agreements are in place for Jovane Cabral and right-back Diego Caito, neither yet announced, and a pre-contract has been signed with Mandaca of Juventude, 24.
Grêmio beat Cascavel 2-1, Carlos Vinícius scoring twice, then lost 2-1 to Chapecoense with Pavon on target. They finished by defeating Cruzeiro 3-1 through Carlos Vinícius, Nardoni and Matheus Nascimento, while goalkeeper Gabriel Grando saved two penalties.
Luís Eduardo returned from a thigh injury, leaving only full-back Marlon out after a March ankle fracture, and he is expected back between July and August. There were early July delays paying salaries and image rights, later settled after a visa issue slowed initial funds from Viery’s Fiorentina transfer.
