Grêmio are close to finalising a new deal for Gabriel Mec. Talks centre on a contract running to September 2031, beyond his current agreement to September 2027.

The renewal would prevent him signing a pre-contract from January next year and includes a salary increase, GZH first reported, later confirmed by ge.

The new contract would not guarantee the attacking midfielder remains. Shakhtar Donetsk are waiting for Grêmio to name their price, having had a 15 million euros bid, R$ 95.1 million at the time, turned down last year, and the player chose to stay in Porto Alegre.

Villarreal also hold an interest and are expected to send scouts soon to watch him in person. Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring his progress after he started recent matches.

There is an expectation that at least one offer will arrive in the next transfer window, which runs from 20 July to 11 September.
