Grêmio’s new hierarchy have begun reshaping the squad for 2026 and are targeting Palmeiras goalkeeper Weverton, 37, as a priority option.
According to Gremistas.net, informal enquiries have gauged his situation, and with the possibility he becomes a reserve in 2026 at the São Paulo club, several teams are interested, Grêmio among them.
The initial idea was a free release, mirroring the agreement used to sign right-back Marcos Rocha via contract termination. However, Palmeiras are unlikely to accept that format, so a financial compensation may be required, to be defined in official talks.
If a move happens, Weverton would be offered a two-season deal, which was the first signal given to his representatives. Bahia have also shown interest in recent months.
Weverton remains under contract at Palmeiras until December 2026. With the recent arrival of Carlos Miguel, the club are preparing a transition in goal.
Beyond a goalkeeper, Grêmio plan to recruit a right-back, a holding midfielder and a playmaker, with priority on domestic options.
