Valencia’s new-stadium push has received a financial lift, with Valencia City Council approving the subdivision of land beside the Nuevo Mestalla for a project led by a company linked to Juan Roig’s son-in-law, Roberto Centeno.
According to 2PlayBook, Valencia will take in more than 30 million euros from the May 2024 land sale, a deal contingent on planning approval and continued progress on the stadium works.
The plot will host two Atitlan towers of 16 and 20 storeys, accommodating a hotel, offices and commercial units next to the ground.
The club views the transaction as a significant step towards restarting and finishing the Nuevo Mestalla, injecting liquidity into a scheme that had been stuck for years, and as a chance to stimulate the local economy and upgrade a key gateway to the city.
Construction on the stadium is advancing and, if nothing unexpected happens, Valencia would begin playing there in summer 2027, with 2026-27 their last season at the current Mestalla.
The Nuevo Mestalla is designed to operate year-round with revenue streams beyond football, including the planned hotel, office space and retail. The project is now moving into its final phase after more than a decade stalled by funding constraints.
