Pep Guardiola admits he may have made too many changes in Manchester City’s 2-0 home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

The City boss opted to make ten changes to the team which lost to Newcastle as goals from Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrick Schick secured a Champions League victory for Leverkusen.

“Yeah, too many changes,” he said.

“What I said, always, is it’s a long season, every two or three days we have to be involved but maybe it’s too much, seeing the result.

“I think they played to not make mistakes instead of playing to do what we have to do.

“Not just with the ball but without the ball we were not aggressive enough. They are a really good team and congratulations to them.

“It is what it is. I take absolute full responsibility.

“I like everybody to be involved. When you don’t play for three, four, five, six, seven games, it’s tough but maybe it was too much.”

Guardiola also stressed that City’s demanding schedule from now on was behind his decision.

“Now it’s every three or four days until March and there is no human being that can sustain it,” he said.

“We are at home, we’re in a good position in the Champions League.

“But it didn’t work, we have to accept it.”
