Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed his team’s win over Arsenal as a good advert for the Premier League.
City closed the gap on Arsenal in the title race to only three points after a 2-1 win at the Etihad. Rayan Cherki’s superb solo goal opened the scoring for the Blues, but Arsenal were level within second as Kai Havertz punished a big error from Gianluigi Donnarumma.
City found a winner after the break when Erling Haaland converted for his 23rd goal of the Premier League campaign. The Citizens will now move top of the table with a win at Burnley in their game in hand on Wednesday night.
Guardiola called on the Citizens to celebrate their victory against ‘one of the most competitive teams’ he has faced in his managerial career.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “It was a good advert for the Premier League. They don’t allow you to go through the process, they’re so aggressive.
“They are good in the duels and one of the most competitive teams I ever faced in my career in terms of duels and one against one, long balls with Havertz and Rice, second balls – fantastic.
“We had momentum, they had momentum, we had chances, they had chances. At the end in these type of games, it is little margins.
“Both teams are good – really top managers! And really top players for both sides.
“I’ve been so demanding but the reality is, it’s just one game. They are top of the league with one goal difference [better than City].
“We have to enjoy it, celebrate it, take the good things but don’t lose the focus. The focus is in three days, we go to Burnley.”
