Pep Guardiola says he does not know whether Bernardo Silva will remain at Manchester City next season, amid continuing links to Benfica.
According to Glorioso 1904, a few days earlier, after a 2-1 win over Liverpool, Guardiola had described Silva as irreplaceable.
Guardiola has not spoken with the midfielder about his plans and has asked to be informed once a decision is made. He also highlighted the Portugal international’s habit of leading by example in the dressing room.
Talk of a return to Benfica gathered pace in September, when presidential candidate João Noronha Lopes said a contract would be waiting if he were elected.
He was defeated in a vote that drew a record number of participants in world football and was settled in a second round. Noronha Lopes took 34.11% against Rui Costa’s 65.89%, with Costa reconfirmed in the role.
Silva, valued at €27 million, has made 35 appearances this season, 26 in the Premier League, six in the Champions League, one in the FA Cup and two in the League Cup. Across 2,512 minutes, he has scored two goals and provided five assists.
