West Ham United head coach Rita Guarino says that her side must be defensively focused when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal this afternoon.

The Hammers have won just once away from home in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season and a trip to Arsenal is always a tough assignment.

When speaking to the media in the pre-match press conference, West Ham United boss Guarino said that her side must be focused defensively on what is a big pitch at the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal create a lot of chances, so it’s another game where we need to be focused defensively,”  Guarino said. “We know how dangerous they can be.

“It’s a big pitch, we need to be very focused and focus on the distance between players.”

West Ham United kept a clean sheet as they draw 0-0 with Manchester United at The Chigwell Construction Stadium in midweek. Guarino is keen for her side to carry on the momentum from that match.

She said “It was a good result for us, especially against a team near the top of the table. We need to keep this confidence.”

The Hammers are now three points clear of the relegation play-off place in the league table. They also boast a better goal difference than bottom club Leicester City. Guarino is not paying any attention to rankings at this point, she wants to focus on performance.

She said “We don’t need to watch the table in this moment because everything can change in a few games. We need to focus on what we can obtain from our games.”

West Ham United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Arsenal kicks-off at 12pm.
