Harry Kane has long been FC Bayern’s key player on the pitch – now the English superstar could also help his club make a potential top transfer off the pitch
There is no question that Kane is indispensable for FC Bayern in sporting terms, but now his importance could reach a new dimension. According to a report in the German newspaper tz, the star striker is said to have actively tried to convince Marc Guehi – captain of Crystal Palace and one of the most sought-after centre-backs in Europe – to move to Munich. Kane has already spoken to his compatriot and made him aware of the prospects at the German record champions.
The 25-year-old’s future has been a hotly debated topic for months, as his contract expires next summer. According to Sky, sporting director Max Eberl has even met with Guehi in person to sound out the possibilities of a move. However, the Englishman is also on the radar of Real Madrid and other top clubs after a transfer to Liverpool FC failed spectacularly last summer.

Guehi was seen across Europe as a potential piece in the mosaic of a major centre-back domino. For a long time, there was speculation that the Englishman could move to Bayern if Dayot Upamecano did not extend his contract and join Real Madrid. However, the BBC recently reported that a contract extension for the Frenchman was imminent. For Bayern, however, this by no means means means a withdrawal from the race for Guehi.
According to consistent reports, FCB are still keeping a close eye on the centre-back market. A possible extension with Upamecano would not categorically rule out another transfer – on the contrary. According to tz, the dream of a trio of Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Marc Guehi has even emerged in Munich. This would mean increased competition for Tah, who has been in strong form for months.
Harry Kane’s exceptional standing in Munich has been evident since his arrival. The England captain is held in the highest regard within the team, but also within the club itself. Kane already played a decisive role in the winter transfer of Eric Dier in 2024 by recommending and supporting his close friend’s move to Munich.
Should he now exert his influence again and play a decisive role in helping Bayern transfer Guehi, it would further underline his importance. Max Eberl recently praised Kane effusively and even put him in the running for the Ballon d’Or. At the same time, the sporting director expressed his optimism that the goalscorer’s contract, which runs until 2027, would be extended early.
The potential Guehi transfer would therefore not only be a sporting statement from Bayern – it could also be a further sign of how deeply Kane is now anchored in the record champions‘ structure.
