Gui Negão ended a four-month drought with a goal in Corinthians’ 3-0 win over Capivariano, easing a difficult spell and reinforcing backing for the teenager.

It came in the sixth round of the Campeonato Paulista. Dorival Júnior had long warned a youngster could fluctuate, according to Globo.com.

He said he had been demanding of himself since last year, that two titles lifted his confidence, and that work paid off. He turns 19 on Friday and spoke at Neo Química Arena.

He added that family, staff, Dorival and assistant Lucas Silvestre have kept him calm, which he sees as essential.

Promoted last June, he produced five goals and two assists in eight games, decisive in the Copa do Brasil last 16 against Athletico-PR.

After starters Yuri Alberto and Memphis Depay returned from injury, he lost minutes and struggled in cameos.

That strike ended a 15-game barren run since a 1-1 draw with Internacional in the Brasileirão in October.

He has 29 senior outings, six goals and two assists, and renewed in August 2025 until June 2030, with release clauses of R$ 140 million domestically and €100 million, R$ 630 million, abroad.

The result moved Corinthians to 11 points, up to fourth in the Paulistão and close to the quarter-finals. They face Palmeiras on Sunday at 20:30 Brasília time, again at Neo Química Arena.
