Ex-Santos forward Guilherme scored the winner for Houston Dynamo against LA Galaxy at the weekend, drawing level with Lionel Messi in the MLS scoring charts.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the Brazilian now has 12 goals and seven assists in 19 matches, while Messi has 12 and eight in 16 for Miami. The league’s leading marksman is Petar Musa of Dallas on 14.
Houston are second in the Western Conference with 35 points. Miami FC sit second in the East on 38.
Houston officially completed his signing in January, paying 2 million dollars, with Santos entitled to 50 percent of the fee. He bade farewell to the club on social media, then visited CT Rei Pelé and Vila Belmiro to say goodbye, receiving a commemorative plaque.
Guilherme joined Santos in December 2023 and quickly became one of the top scorers in their Série B campaign. He later netted the club’s historic 13,000th goal and, despite injuries and fluctuating form, also cemented his status as a leading scorer, even drawing boos at Vila Belmiro.
He scored 28 goals in 95 appearances for Santos. Born in São Paulo, he debuted professionally with São José-RS in 2015 and has played for Botafogo, Chapecoense, Coritiba, Sport, Grêmio, Fortaleza, Al-Faisaly and Al Dhafra.
