Club América have confirmed Guillermo Almada as their new head coach, replacing André Jardine, who departs after winning six trophies in three years.
The Uruguayan begins on eight June, when the squad reports to Coapa to start pre-season for the Apertura 2026 and the Leagues Cup.
Almada, 56, has been coaching since 2008, starting with a third-tier side in Uruguay. He has led seven teams, including two in Mexico, Santos and Pachuca.
His honours as a manager include the Torneo Preparación with River Plate in Uruguay, Ecuador’s Serie A with Barcelona, and with Pachuca the Liga MX, Concacaf Champions Cup, Derbi de las Américas and Copa Challenger.
He is noted for promoting young players, so Coapa could see more academy graduates in the first team under his watch.
One caveat is that his distinctive methods have at times caused friction with some players.
