Stockport County's ground, Edgeley Park, is highly rated by those who visit

Edgeley Park has been the home of Stockport County for as long as any Hatters fan can remember.

They first moved to their current home way back in 1902, having outgrown their former home, behind the Nursey Inn in Heaton Norris.

Many changes and modifications have been made since then, including a few significant upgrades under current owner Mark Stott.

Here, Football League World takes a look at what people are saying about the stadium on review platform, Tripadvisor.

From 32 reviews posted on the site, Edgeley Park comes out with an average rating of 4.5 stars.

Many comments nod to the fact that County’s ground is in the mould of what they would consider a ‘traditional’ football stadium, which many football fans prefer.

The most recent review, from a user called PaulB92, said: "First visit here and was not disappointed it’s a proper traditional old school football league ground glad I came and would return again."

There are also many who have enjoyed visiting Edgeley Park as a concert venue over the years.

Those who visited to watch Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott were left impressed, and the pitch has also memorably hosted live performances from the likes of Blossoms.

"Extremely well organised and extremely professional. Hope there will be many more concerts held at Edgeley Park in future!"

Not every visitor was happy

There are some negative reviews, but they are mainly regarding prices and an individual experience with an order gone wrong.

Just one negative review mentions the stadium itself, nodding to the fact that the Railway End is an open terrace, so is therefore subject to poor weather conditions — something which is being addressed in the proposed stadium expansion.

User RedPhoenix1 said: "Away end uncovered so open to the elements. 1400 supporters there and only one poor girl serving at the small bar. Toilets old and grim, food was very poor."

That opinion dates back to March 2023, but all of those issues mentioned are set to be improved by the upcoming plans for renovation.

The catering also used to get some criticism, before the Stott-fuelled revamp, but the pies have always been a plus point.

In 2017, RopentaStones said: "The catering also is occasionally haphazard but the Balti pies are to die for...and the Guinness always spot on.

"All-in-All one of the best lower league clubs you can visit."

On the whole, however, visitors seem to come away happy from their Edgeley Park experience.

Those reviews may even improve further when Stott has finished upgrading the stadium.

Upgrades to come at Edgeley Park

The County owner, who took control of the club in 2020, has already set about making improvements.

The back of the Cheadle End, on view to bypassers, has had a face-lift, as has the concourse and events space below, improving the refreshments on offer and the general feel of the place, giving it a more modern look throughout.

There has also been the addition of the County Courtyard, in the car park at the back of the Cheadle End, which hosts live music, live player interviews, artisan food and a range of drinks on a matchday.

But more work is in the pipeline.

The club have plans to expand the current 10,852-capacity stadium to an 18,000-seater venue, with improvements to made to the matchday offering throughout, pending planning permission.
