Dortmund dominated the opening exchanges, controlling 75% of possession in the first half. Their superiority was rewarded in the 33rd minute when Guirassy broke the deadlock, capitalising on a well-worked move. The goal came from a corner, with Waldemar Anton's acrobatic control setting up the striker for a close-range finish. Dortmund dominated a first period in which Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller made some crucial saves to keep his side in the game.

Tullberg's decision to bring on Maximilian Beier in the second half proved inspired, as the substitute doubled Dortmund's lead in the 63rd minute. Beier latched onto a precise pass from Ramy Bensebaini to slot home, seemingly putting the game beyond Heidenheim's reach. However, the hosts responded almost immediately, with Mathias Honsak pulling a goal back just a minute later, setting up a tense finale.

The final stages of the match saw Heidenheim push hard for an equaliser, buoyed by their goal and the introduction of the pacey Sirlord Conteh. Dortmund's defence stood firm under pressure, however.

Anton delivered a masterclass in defence while his acrobatic control in the box set up Guirassy's opener, showcasing his contribution at both ends of the pitch. Anton's commanding presence also helped Dortmund weather Heidenheim's late pressure - with some crucial interceptions too.
