Gustavo Caballero eligible for Santos after CBF BID listing | OneFootball

Gustavo Caballero’s registration has appeared in the CBF’s Daily Bulletin (BID), giving Cuca an extra attacking option at Santos, and he may now feature as the season continues.

According to Globo.com, the forward spent the first half of the year on loan at Portsmouth in England’s second division, and his European form earned a Paraguay call-up for the World Cup.

At the tournament he came off the bench against Germany and France in the knockout phase. Paraguay’s surprise win over Germany in the second round boosted the squad’s value, including Caballero.

Since last week he has trained with the group at CT Rei Pelé. Cuca had been waiting for the international window to open so his status could be regularised.

Because he already belongs to Santos, his case is not affected by Fifa’s transfer ban that stops the club registering new players. He is viewed as a rare pacy winger option for Cuca.

The board have fielded enquiries in recent weeks. The 24-year-old is under contract for another three seasons and is seen as a potential sale to ease financial issues.

His future remains open as the hierarchy assess whether interest turns into an offer that could help the Vila Belmiro club’s finances.
