Corinthians played their first Brasileirão match at the Urbano Caldeira Stadium, Vila Belmiro, and were defeated by Bahia. The match took place before the club's first major decision of the season, against Flamengo, for the Supercopa do Brasil. In a press conference, defender Gustavo Henrique spoke about 'bad luck' in the defeat and set the title race as the main goal at the start of the year.

“Well, it didn't hinder anything, actually. This game is serving as preparation, a good preparation for the first decision we will have against a very tough opponent. In my view today, we played a great game, we conceded two goals. Very complicated to explain, right? A bit of bad luck. We were doing well in the game, the first goal, it ended up deflecting there and taking Hugo out of all conditions,” said the defender.

“But this doesn't worry me, it doesn't worry me because Sunday is a completely different game, we have been preparing a lot, we know our responsibility, we know it's just one game, where we have the condition to go there and play a great game. I hope everything goes well and that in the end, we can be champions.,” he added.

Gustavo Henrique was questioned about the possibility of Corinthians feeling the physical aspect in the first Brasileirão game, which in recent years had been happening between March and April. For the defender, the starters arrived rested to face Bahia.

“I think not physically, I think in the last game most of the considered, team A, was rested in the last game, we prepared a lot for this game, we know the importance of starting the Brazilian Championship well, since in the two years I've been here Corinthians didn't start well, we motivated ourselves to win this game, we demanded a lot from ourselves before the game, unfortunately, we couldn't get this victory that would be important for our start,” explained the defender.

Now, after the defeat, the People's Team is 100% focused on the Supercopa do Brasil. The game takes place on Sunday, February 1st, at the Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasília. The squad showed eagerness to take the field in pursuit of the title.

“We are very anxious, as you said, it's normal, I think for a decision we always prepare differently, it will be a great game where the crowd will be divided, so it will be a spectacle apart, both outside and inside the field, we try to enjoy the moment there, we know our responsibilities, we know we will face a very tough, very difficult team, however, on their side, they will also find difficulties and I hope that in the end, we can be champions.,” commented Gustavo Henrique.
