H. Ricard says Jhon Durán ‘must apologise’ for Colombia return | OneFootball

Jhon Durán could be back in contention for Colombia after more than a year away, with debate over his absence resurfacing and a prominent voice urging him to apologise.

"He has to apologise, accept that he was wrong and made a mistake. That is not being foolish, it is being big," said H. Ricard. He told ESPN.

The Benfica forward has not been called up since June 2025. He officially left that camp with a back problem, though reports in Colombia alleged a dressing-room incident in which he struck head coach Néstor Lorenzo during a row with a team-mate.

Alberto Suárez, Envigado’s coach and an important figure in Durán’s development, has offered a different account. He said he asked the player about it and was told there was no assault.

"He explained he was holding and remonstrating with a team-mate when the coach grabbed him from behind," said Suárez. "'I did not know it was him, I opened my arms to move him away, then realised it was the coach and he had fallen to the floor'."
