Manchester City thrashed Liverpool 4-0 in the FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The first genuine opportunity came Liverpool’s way when Giorgi Mamardashvili launched a ball over the top for Mohamed Salah, but Abdukodir Khusanov made a last-ditch tackle to deny him.

Hugo Ekitike fluffed a chance to put Liverpool ahead before the half-hour mark, blasting wide after the ball fell nicely to him inside the area.

Erling Haaland broke the deadlock in the 37th minute from the penalty spot, sending Mamardashvili the wrong way.

Haaland doubled the lead shortly after the restart, beating Ibrahima Konate to get to Antoine Semenyo’s cross and headed to the far corner.

Semenyo added a third for Man City in the 50th minute. The Ghanaian was slipped in behind by Rayan Cherki, and he dinked the ball over the onrushing Mamardashvili.

At the other end, James Trafford prevented Salah from reducing the deficit with a low save.

Haaland made it 4-0 with a clinical finish in the 57th minute, netting his first hat-trick against the Reds.

Salah had the opportunity to reduce Liverpool’s deficit from the penalty spot, only to be denied by Trafford.

The City goalkeeper made another good stop in the 76th minute, parrying Alexis McAllister’s long-range shot away.

City held on to their four-goal cushion, reaching the FA Cup semi-finals for the eighth consecutive season.
