Habib Beye sacked as Rennes manager – report

Habib Beye’s tenure as manager of Stade Rennais is over, according to a report from Foot Mercato. He learned his fate on Monday morning, following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against OGC Nice.

Beye, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli on the touchline at the start of the year, has paid for a middling start to the season, despite continued investment in the playing squad. After two sub-par campaigns, the objective this season was clear: return to European competition.

Rennes’ hierarchy have decided that Beye was not capable of guiding them there. Whilst his sacking has not yet been officialised, he will leave the club in 10th in Ligue 1 with a record of two wins, five draws, and two defeats this season. Les Rennais’ last win came back on 14th September.

The search for his predecessor is already underway, Foot Mercato report. Former AS Monaco and Glasgow Rangers manager Philippe Clement is in the running, the publication understands.
