One week after his dismissal from Stade Rennais, Habib Beye reportedly received a letter today making the management’s decision official, according to a report from RMC Sport.

In other words, Beye, officially released from his duties as coach of the Breton club, is now free to commit himself to any club. The 48-year-old tactician is now set to take his place on the bench at Olympique de Marseille, where he played between 2003 and 2007, according to press reports.

A theory reinforced by Mehdi Benatia’s rise to power at OM, recently confirmed by the club’s owner, Frank McCourt, a great admirer of the former defender. Beye, who is expected to succeed Roberto De Zerbi, will have the daunting task of leading Marseille to the Ligue 1 podium, but also to victory in the Coupe de France.

Currently fourth in the league, OM are five points behind Olympique Lyonnais, whom they will host at the Stade Vélodrome in less than two weeks. In parallel, beating Toulouse FC on 4th March in front of their home crowd would open the doors to the semi-finals of France’s oldest competition. And above all, the path to their first title since 2012.
