According to a report from L’Équipe, Habib Diarra (21) has successfully completed his medical ahead of his move to Sunderland from Strasbourg. The 21-year-old’s move to the newly promoted Premier League side will be a club record fee worth €35m.
Leeds United, AC Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt were also interested in signing the Senegalese international, but Diarra preferred the move to the Stadium of Light. The Strasbourg midfielder is set to sign a long-term deal in the North East of England after successfully completing his medical.
Sky Sports News understand that Diarra is seen as a replacement for Jobe Bellingham. The Englishman has followed in his brother’s footsteps by making the move to Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder will be the second arrival familiar with Ligue 1 at Sunderland this summer, after former Lorient midfielder Enzo Le Fée also made the permanent switch, following their promotion to the Premier League.
