Morocco finished their group campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-0 win over Zambia at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Monday evening.
Morocco opened the scoring in the ninth minute with Ayoub El Kaabi placing Azzedine Ounahi’s well-delivered cross into the net.
The hosts doubled their lead before the half-hour mark, as Brahim Diaz side-footed Abde Ezzalzouli’s pass into the far corner, leaving goalkeeper Willard Mwanza rooted to the spot.
Diaz came close to extending the Atlas Lions’ lead before the break, prodding a first-time shot narrowly wide of the post, before forcing Mwanza to make a brilliant save.
Patson Daka squandered a big chance to reduce the deficit just after the restart, before El Kaabi added to Morocco’s tally at the other end.
Ounahi delivered a lofted pass into the box for the unmarked Olympiacos striker, who produced a brilliant overhead kick to put the ball home.
Reigning African Men’s Player of the Year Achraf Hakimi came on after the hour mark, making his first appearance in the competition.
Hakimi was presented with a chance to get on the scoresheet from a free-kick, but could only blaze his effort wide before being denied by Mwanza with a superb save.
The victory sees the Atlas Lions finish top of Group A with seven points, while Mali finished second.
