Having been close to leaving on several occasions in the last few seasons, Rennes captain Hamari Traoré will finally leave Brittany this summer, with his contract expiring at the end of the month.
The Malian right-back has been linked with a potential move to Lyon as well as Real Betis, having been targeted by Barcelona last summer – however, he appears to be closer to joining another La Liga side. According to Foot Mercato this afternoon, Traoré is close to completing a free transfer to Real Sociedad.
The 31-year-old is expected to arrive in San Sebastián imminently for his medical, after which he will put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Basques, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League group stages.
Traoré leaves the Roazhon Park after six seasons, during which he has made 239 appearances in all competitions. He was reportedly offered a contract extension back in April – the terms of the contract did not meet his expectations, and he was also irked at the club’s delay in making the proposal, when other players had extensions wrapped up much earlier.
