In an interview with Bild, on-loan Hamburg defender Luka Vuskovic spoke about his decision to join the club and whether he will stay in Northern Germany.
Since joining HSV on loan in the summer, Vuskovic has been a mainstay of the defence at the Volksparkstadion and has been one of their best players as Merlin Polzin’s side currently sit 10th in the Bundesliga.
The 19-year-old has a strong connection with the club, as his brother Mario is a former player who played for Hamburg before being banned for doping, while he will return to the club once his ban is completed in November.
The decision to join HSV was always going to be emotional for Luka, and when asked if it was the best decision of his life when he moved to Northern Germany, the Croatian international said:
Yes. I knew it from the day I signed my contract.
One of the 19-year-old’s goals is to play alongside his brother at some point, whether that be at Hamburg upon his return, is currently unknown, and whether he will be able to achieve such a dream is something that Luka has kept open:
“That’s such a big dream, and at this moment it’s still too unrealistic; I can’t really imagine it yet…But who knows what will happen in a few months or years? It will surely become more realistic at some point. It’s our whole family’s dream. Our parents, in particular , would love to see their sons playing together on the same team. We’ve never actually managed that, not even in a casual or family game.”
There has been a lot of talk surrounding Vuskovic’s future and whether he will return and play for his parent club, Tottenham. The 19-year-old is already attracting interest from big clubs in Europe, and with the Premier League side flirting with relegation to the Championship, after such a successful season with Hamburg, it would be considered a downgrade to return to North London.
On whether he will return to Spurs, even if they get relegated, the 19-year-old said:
“I can’t and won’t say anything about that or about the future in general. I’m their player and I have a contract until 2030.”
