Bild reports that Hamburg will look to re-negotiate the buy option in their loan agreement with Arsenal for loanee Fabio Vieira.
The 25-year-old moved to Northern Germany in the summer on a loan which included a €20m buy option. For a promoted side like Hamburg, that is a fee that is close to impossible to meet.
Whether Vieira opts to stay at the Volksparkstadion is completely open. The two clubs will meet in April/May to talk about his future, and a decision could be made then. The 25-year-old’s contract in England expires in 2027 (next summer).
If Hamburg avoids relegation, this could open the door for Vieira to stay longer.
Since joining on loan in the summer, Vieira has been one of the bright sparks in this newly promoted HSV side. In 15 Bundesliga games, the 25-year-old has two goals and four assists, including a penalty against Bayern Munich.
Vieira is not the only ex-Arsenal player to perform at the Volksparkstadion this season. Albert Sambi Lokonga has also impressed, scoring four in 16 games and was HSV’s top scorer before Rayan Philippe’s goal at the weekend.
