Former Manchester United coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is in the running for the Hamburger SV job, as per reports.

Ruben Amorim’s era at United kicked off with a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday, as Marcus Rashford’s early goal was cancelled out by Omari Hutchinson’s superb strike.

While a point against the newly promoted side is far from impressive, the Red Devils can be delighted with their five-game unbeaten streak.

It is worth noting that four of the results came under Van Nistelrooy, who impressed with his management skills as the interim boss following Erik ten Hag’s sacking late in October.

Under Van Nistelrooy’s tutelage, the Mancunians played out a 1-1 draw against Chelsea and beat Leicester City in the League Cup as well as in the Premier League. They also earned their first win in this season’s Europa League group phase.

Regardless of his popularity at Carrington, Amorim’s backroom staff took shape without the Dutch legend, who is now attracting interest from a number of clubs.

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Hamburger are considering to appoint Van Nistelrooy as their new head coach following Steffen Baumgart’s departure.

The German outfit, who currently play in 2. Bundesliga, parted ways with Baumgart on the back of just one win in their last five league outings.

It is claimed that they are now “exploring several options” and Nistelrooy features on their list of managerial candidates.

The 48-year-old, who played for the club in 2010, has been “discussed internally” and was “already a topic of discussion before Baumgart became head coach.”

Further, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace, and Leicester City have all reportedly shown interest in Van Nistelrooy’s services.

It is believed that the ex-United striker is in the pole position to lead the Foxes, who recently parted ways with Steve Cooper.
