Hamza Abdelkarim named in Barcelona squad for Elche trip in La Liga opener | OneFootball

Hansi Flick has named 18-year-old Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim in Barcelona’s squad for tonight’s trip to Elche at 20:45, the club’s opening La Liga fixture of the season.

According to Sport, Alejandro Baldé is not included and is being pushed towards the exit.

It is Abdelkarim’s first competitive call-up, after four goals in six pre-season matches. Barcelona exercised a €1.5m purchase option on the centre-forward this summer.

The match counts as a second-round fixture owing to a scheduling arrangement, yet it is Barcelona’s first league outing.

New arrivals Joao Cancelo, Karim Adeyemi and Anthony Gordon are in the squad. Recent signing Rodri misses out, as does 18-year-old Belgian winger Jesse Bisiwu, bought for €8.5m. Frenkie de Jong remains injured.
