Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Thursday moved to back a member of his squad as a potential captain in the making.
The player in question? Gavi.
Youngster Gavi was for his part introduced off the bench earlier today, as Barcelona continued their pre-season tour of Asia in a meeting with South Korean outfit FC Seoul.
Not only that, but, upon taking to the pitch, the midfielder was afforded the honour of the captain’s armband.
A spot could well be set to open up in the captain contingent in Barca’s squad over the coming weeks, amid ongoing speculation surrounding the situation of Marc-André ter Stegen.
And, speaking to the media on the back of his side’s 7-3 victory in Seoul on Thursday, Hansi Flick appeared to back Gavi as a potential candidate:
“We already saw Gavi doing very well at the end of the season; I remember he had a fantastic game in Bilbao. Today it was decided that he would play for 30 minutes. As captain, he fits in, and that’s what we want from him. He always encourages the team, and what we want from him is this level.”
