Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed exactly what he said to Nico Williams, in the viral exchange between the pair on Saturday evening.

Barca and Athletic Club of course locked horns a short time ago, with the former having ultimately emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result.

Nico Williams, the talk of the town in the buildup to the clash, featured from the off, but endured a tough time of things up against the unerring Jules Koundé.

In turn, on the back of the full-time whistle, it turned heads when the 22-year-old, a known Barcelona transfer target, was spotted in a warm exchange with Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick.

So, what exactly did Flick say to elicit such a reaction?

Did the German ask Williams to reconsider his decision not to depart Athletic? Or perhaps ask how the Spaniard would feel about filling the berth on the left of his attack?

Far from it.

Speaking to the media post-match, Barca’s headmaster revealed that, in fact, he simply congratulated the attacker on his triumphant campaign at Euro 2024:

“I didn’t say anything specific to Nico after the game… just congratulations for the Euros!”
