Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has confirmed Tiago Dantas will be available and could make his debut this weekend against FSV Mainz 05.
Dantas was signed on loan from Benfica in the summer but could not be registered for the first-team in time. He was resigned to play for the second team during the first half of the season.
But now, Flick has confirmed that the youngster will join the first team and could feature in the first game of 2021.
The Bayern boss told Sport1 at the pre-match press conference: “It’s always up to a player himself whether he plays or not and to what extent he develops.
“We have a good team, with good depth. It’s important that he shows his quality in every training session, both to the coaching team and his teammates.”
When Dantas was signed in the summer, Flick was already looking forward to January, when he could include the promising 20-year-old in his team. Back in December, Flick told BILD: “In January, he will already be legally available to play.
“At that time, it will be an option for us. He is progressing well, despite being currently injured. If he can show himself among the professionals it will be another big step for him.”
Bayern will be without Kingsley Coman and Marc Roca for the clash with Mainz, with Flick confirming yesterday that Coman is still recovering from the injury sustained during the Bayer Leverkusen victory. However, he did add that Coman should be back for next week’s game against Gladbach.
