According to L'ÉEquipe, on Tuesday Hansi Flick said Barcelona would be the final club of his career on the eve of their Champions League last-16 second leg against Newcastle. He added that he is happy in Barcelona and has no intention of going elsewhere.

He did not say whether he would extend his contract, which runs to June 2027. Club president Joan Laporta, recently re-elected, had earlier said he intended to add a year to the coach's deal.

Flick, 61, said he would first discuss the matter with his family and that now was not the right time to decide. The former Germany manager led the national team from 2021 to 2023.

Appointed in summer 2024 to replace Xavi Hernandez, he guided Barcelona to a domestic treble last season, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. They also reached a Champions League semi-final, losing to Inter, while playing a high-risk, attacking style appreciated by supporters.

The second leg is on Wednesday at 18:45 after a first-leg draw in England. Flick warned it would be a difficult game against a physical side that marks aggressively and breaks quickly. He said Barcelona must deliver a perfect performance to hope to reach the quarter-finals, where they would face the winner of Atlético Madrid versus Tottenham, with the Spaniards 5-2 up from the first leg.
