Hansi Flick confronted his players at half-time despite Barcelona leading Mallorca, then used video clips to reset attitude and technique on the way to three points.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Robert Lewandowski had put Barça ahead after a deflection fell his way, yet Flick was furious and felt the mentality and attitude were off. He asked the squad if they were satisfied with the first half and they said no.

During the game referee Alejandro Quintero González came to the touchline to speak with Flick after protests about Mallorca’s walls failing to keep their distance at free-kicks. No card was shown, and Flick said he told the official the foul on Lamine Yamal looked like a penalty to him.

The mood lifted when Marc Bernal struck his first professional goal, prompting the entire bench to applaud. The celebration recognised not only the finish but his return after a year out with a serious knee injury, with hugs also for the physio who oversaw his rehabilitation.

With the score at 3-0, Flick handed a debut to 19-year-old Tommy Marqués, a midfielder who can also cover at right-back. Looking ahead, he hopes to see the correct tone from the first minute against Atlético on Thursday.
