Hansi Flick springs major surprise with Barcelona selection call vs Guadalajara | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has turned heads across the club’s fanbase on Tuesday evening.

This comes courtesy of his choice of goalkeeper for the club’s latest outing.

Barcelona are of course primed to return to action in short order, having made the trip to minnows Guadalajara to kickstart the defence of their Copa del Rey title.

The widespread expectation in the buildup to the clash was that Joan García would be afforded a well-earned rest for the evening.

And this has since proven to be the case.

It is the Spaniard’s replacement between the Blaugrana posts, though, which has turned heads.

With Wojciech Szczęsny widely viewed as Barca’s no.2, the Pole looked the obvious bet to step back in to face Guadalajara on Tuesday.

But instead, Hansi Flick has opted for club captain Marc-André ter Stegen, who is expected to be on the move during the January transfer window.
